I tend to leave the announcement of War Studies Seminars at the Centre for War Studies to the group blog Birmingham “On War”. However, the subject of next weeks is of real interest to me. It is:

Air Vice-Marshal Professor Tony Mason CB CBE DL

‘The Harris & Cheshire Interviews – Exclusive Footage’

Tony Mason is a well know expert in the field of Air Power Studies. He was the RAF’s first Director of Defence Studies and has written and lectured widely on the subject. The interviews with Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir Arthur Harris and Group Captain Leonard Cheshire VC was filmed while Tony was D Def S and have never been rarely seen in public. Indeed I have only seen a short clip of the Harris film when Sebastian Cox, Head of the Air Historical Branch, showed a clip of it at the start of lecture on the subject of ‘Constructive Dissent: the Portal-Harris Controversy over Oil’ at a Day School at Birmingham that was held in tribute to Tony when he retired from his chair in Strategic Studies at the University of Birmingham. I am very interested to hear what is asked and the replies these illustrious men have. Additionally, to have commentary from Tony will be an added bonus.

The event will be on 16 October 2012. The Seminar meets on TUESDAYS at 5.30 p.m. in Lecture Room 3, 1st Floor, Arts Building (R16 on the campus map).
