Do you need research undertaking? Working on a project but don’t have enough time to get to the archives?
Then you have come to the right place. I can help you pinpoint sources to support your research, provide background for a book or TV programme, or help with an academic project.
I specialise in the following topics:
- Military history – particularly the First and Second World Wars, Air Power and Naval Power
- Political and diplomatic history – the great affairs of state, the minor scandals which can so illuminate a period in history, and Britain’s relations with the world
- Education history – particularly the development of education policy
However, there is very little I cannot turn my hand to. During my most recent project I conducted research for Jonathan Dimbleby’s forthcoming book on the Battle of El Alamein, Destiny in the Desert: The Story behind El Alamein – The Battle that Turned the Tide (London: Profile Books, 2012).
I have worked at the majority of the major archives in the UK including The National Archives, British Library, the Liddell Hart Centre for Military Archives at King’s College London, the Liddle Collection at the University of Leeds, the RAF Museum, the Imperial War Museum, and the Tank Museum.
My fees are £20 per hour or £150 per day, plus reasonable expenses and travel costs.
As part of the fee, you will receive a report about what I have found and the sources used to find it, as well as copies of the relevant documents. Unless otherwise specified, documents will be provided as JPEG image files. Copying is an additional cost and can be requested and included in any quote.
Please feel free to email me to discuss your requirements. From this, I will prepare an action plan in order to undertake the required research that will identify key sources to be examined and how long it will take.
